West Noble senior Scholar Athlete Emily Durham is planning to attend Anderson University next fall to study Musical Theater and Psychology while also continuing her outstanding career in Track and Field. Durham’s ultimate goal is to be an actress someday as a career. Durham was a Regional Qualifier in the Discus this season while also earning Honorable Mention All NECC honors. Emily’s personal best this season was 113’3”.
Durham is looking forward to stepping on the Anderson Campus in August. The NCAA Division 3 school appealed to Emily the moment she stepped foot on the campus. “I really enjoyed the welcoming attitude that the throwing squad had when I visited. The coach was someone that I am looking forward to being around for 4 years. He expects a lot out of his throwers both on and off the field. The school in general really seemed to care about its students before and after graduation,” Durham said.
Her West Noble coaches will sorely miss the talented Durham, but not just for her ability to throw the discus and shot put. West Noble Head Coach Kirstin Alles said, “Emily was a great leader for our team. She was so cheerful and encouraging to our other team members. She was always looking to help and we will greatly miss her, but we are very excited for her.” Asst. Coach Kevin Handshoe echoed many of the same sentiments, but added that “Emily always wanted to know what it took to get to the next level and now she is there. It could not happen to a better person.”
Emily is the daughter of Rob and Lisa Durham of Ligonier. Congratulations Emily and we are proud of you!
